These Watercolour Floor Designs Feature Traditional Islamic Geometry Techniques
This trio of faux tile flooring designs features kaleidoscopic Islamic geometry patterns by Atrafloor, created by combining traditional art with modern design applications.
Intricate zellige tilework can be found adorning Safavid architecture and Islamic areas; gracing the Grand Mosque of Paris, the streets of Seville, Marrakech and more. Prepossessing decorations they may be - but they are also regarded as one of the most powerful forms of sacred art.
The complex designs represent the cosmos, the mind and the soul, as the mathematical folds and intertwining of the lines present the unity of dimensions. The harmony of life is reflected in the geometry, rhythm and calligraphic nature of the designs.
Atrafloor's designers have used traditional techniques for forming Islamic geometry to create some unique motifs that stay faithful to the ancient arabesque art form. The hand-painted watercolours were scanned and edited digitally to compose designs for floors that offer a way to display the beautiful Islamic craft in home interiors.
